Four Great Fall Decorating Ideas

Fall will be here before you know it. With this change in season comes an opportunity to redesign your living space. Get your home nice and cozy just in time for the fallen leaves, crisp temperatures, and pumpkin picking.
Here are a few fall design trends to get excited about:

1. Chic plaid
That’s right…we said plaid! Large scale plaids are making a comeback. They add a cozy, chic flair to any room as a statement fabric. From the window treatments to a set of throw pillows or fabric napkins in the kitchen, plaid is versatile and trendy.

2. Textiles and earth-friendly elements
2019 has been a landmark year in sustainable design and décor. By using vintage, recycled pieces throughout the house and new materials that have been sustainably sourced, you can create bold and stylish statements. More and more homeowners will incorporate handmade pieces throughout the home to emphasize the environment in all of its glory, according to Valerie Ruddy Designs owner, Valerie Ruddy, “Textiles such as hemp, silk, and linen; sustainably sourced wood furniture from fallen trees; rugs made of sisal or jute; these earth-friendly elements in our homes help us to connect with the natural beauty around us without hurting the planet,” Ruddy said. Live edge furnishings gained popularity this year. “Accessories and art made of fallen twigs, beautifully natural and sustainably harvested stone or textiles, can be made to complement any décor,” she said.

3. Matte finish
Finishes have gotten decidedly less glossy. Satin paint for cabinets and trim as well as floor and furniture finishes are the norm now. A little shine in the form of candlelight or mercury glass can add a bit of fall fun to your décor.

4. Peaches and creams
If a new color scheme is the main factor that’s on your mind, fall is a perfect time to do it. We are seeing soft whites and beige to overpass gray as the top neutral of the season, but shades of peach are also making a huge statement this fall. Consider it the cousin of blush, a pink shade that had gained a lot of popularity recently. Peach is the perfect color to consider as an accent to your gray toned room, for the master bedroom bedding or the delicate accessories in the guest bathroom.

Interior redesign can be complex; it’s more than placing a few new throw pillows on your sofa. To be successful, it takes vision.
