The Township of West Orange as we know it today first began in 1862 as the smaller town of Fairmount. The name West Orange wasn’t actually used to 1863. However, almost 200 years of history encompassing the time before the American Revolution would lead to the eventual founding of our hometown.

West Orange Public Schools – The West Orange Public School District has been educating students since 1895 when the historic Washington Elementary School opened its doors. Today, the district boasts eleven extraordinary schools. The seven traditional neighborhood elementary schools include a very sought after full day kindergarten.
